Medicine Buddha Thankas

This Tibetan style Thanka / Thangka features an image of the Medicine Buddha. It is believed that the Buddha provided the world with the knowledge of medicine and healing as a gift, and the jar in His left hand holds that knowledge. His right hand, with the palm facing outwards and the fingers pointing down, is in the mudra (hand gesture) of bestowing a gift or blessing.

This Thanka is particularly vibrant, with the stark blue Buddha image against a shimmering gold background. The brocade is extremely attractive and shows as much attention to detail as the painting. This Thanka is the one that gets most noticed in our retail store.
