Ganesha Thankas

This Tibetan style Thanka / Thangka features the Hindu deity Ganesh (also known as Ganesha), the elephant-headed god of auspicious beginnings and overcoming obstacles.

Ganesha is one of the most popular deities in the Hindu world, and since he is the god of beginnings, he is to be worshipped before any of the other gods during Hindu rituals.

This particular Thankas shows a surprisingly subtle amount of detail. While not having the thousands of tiny brushstrokes that some images have, this work features very subtle and realistic skin tones in the face and body. The subtle gradients in the skin help work in balance with the bold colors of the halo, clothing and background.
