Statues of Kuan Yin

It is believed that a Bodhisattva (or Boddhisatva, as it is sometimes spelled), was a human who has forsaken the final stage of enlightenment in order to help all earthly beings attain enlightenment first.

This image of Kuan Yin shows her sitting on a Lotus Blossom, which is a symbol of purity of the heart (since it is able to maintain its beauty despite the fact that it grows in areas surrounded by mud). For more information about the legend of Kuan Yin, please click here.
