This statue depicts the spiritual family of Shiva, his wife Parvati, and their son, Ganesha, the elephant headed God of Success. According to tradition, Shiva had vowed to remain single, but was so impressed with Parvati's devotion and purity, that he gladly married her.

They had their child Ganesha who was born with the head of a boy. However, Ganesha's head was replaced by that of an elephant soon afterward. Some stories say that Ganesha's original head was burned when a god with eyesight that burned everything looked at the newborn baby Ganesha. Another story has Lord shiva chopping off Ganesha's head when Shiva did not recognize his own son. These statues are great as gifts for those with families and children.
