This is a Buddha Statue in the shape of the Buddha's head, and it is done in the U-Thong Style of Thai art (see more information below on the U-Thong style). This statue is made of brass, and it has been given a green patina to provide an aged, antique appearance to the statue.

Buddha heads (known as "sien" in Thai), are highly revered in Buddhist countries. In fact, in Thailand they use a different word for the head of Monks and the Buddha (Sien) than for laymen (Hua).

The U-Thong (Golden Craddle) style of art flourished in Central Thailand as the region moved from the Sukhothai style's influence to the later Ayutthaya style's influence. As seen in this statue, the Buddha's head features very tight, smaller curls (the Sukhothai style has larger curls), but it also shares the Sukhothai style of having a flame protruding from the top of the Buddha's head. In the early part of the U-thong period, the protrusion was usually in the sahpe of a Lotus Bud. This statue also has a more oval face, similar to the Sukhothai style pieces, while the early U-Thong pieces had a more square face.

This statue is 12.5 Inches Tall by 5 Inches Wide by 5.5 Inches Deep.
