This particular statue is made out of Bone Resin, a unique mixture of half regular resin and half buffalo bone. In this image, the left hand lies in the lap palm up in the posture of meditation. a lotus blossom (a symbol of purity in Buddhism and Hinduism) rests in the left hand, and also decorate the disc behind the Buddha.

This image is the embodiment of the Rainy Season, and there can be versions with a seven-headed snake rising above the Buddha. According to Buddhist legend, one day while the Lord Buddha was meditating, it began to rain. Hoping to protect the Buddha and prevent Him from being disturbed, the seven-headed serpent spread its hood to prevent the rain from falling on him. Because of this event, you will often see images of serpents at Buddhist temples. They are called Naga, and can be found lining the stairs to the main chapels.
