Now On Sale! Walking Buddha Statues: This statue is of a Sukhothai style Buddha, and is a less common attitude than found in most contemporary images. The posture of walking was once fairly common during the Sukhothai period, but as later kingdoms emerged, the seated attitude of Calling the Earth to Witness became more common.
This piece has a graceful appearance, as if the Buddha was not just walking, but more gliding on air. It has been given a rich green patina to simulate aging. It is one of our larger images. Sukhothai is an ancient capital of Thailand, at the base of the northern mountains in Thailand. The Sukhothai period is often thought of as the Golden Age of Thai kingdoms, and was the era that saw many developments in the culture of Thailand. The current town of Sukhothai is home to a national park featuring numerous beautiful runis from this era and is a must-visit site for anyone traveling to Thailand.
PLEASE NOTE: There is some slight wearing away of the black finish on the right thigh. While it is noticeable, it is, in our opinion, very minor. Please be sure to view the photo that is a closeup of the wear.
