This brass statue from India depicts the Buddha under the Wisdom tree, the place where the Buddha achieved enlightenment in the town of Lumphini. This is often called the Knowledge Tree, and Bho or Bhoddhi Tree. This statue is 10 Inches Tall by 10 Inches Wide by 7 Inches Deep.
The very tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment is highly venerated. In fact, many Buddhist temples throughout Asia will have a tree growing in their yard that grew from a sapling of the original tree.
The mudra (hand gesture) of the right hand is known as Calling the Earth to Witness. This is a depiction of the Buddha on the verge of gaining enlightenment, he called on Mother Earth to witness the fact that he was doing this for the benefit of humanity as a whole, not for his own selfish reasons.
This is a really striking Buddha statue. The brass has been oxidized and a patina has been applied to give it the disctinct green and rust colors. You will be proud to have this Buddhist statue in your home.
