This sandstone statue depicts a Chinese Buddhist monk praying while collecting alms (donations). This statue appears to be of a Novice Monk, meaning usually a young child who has entered the monkhood for a temporary time, as is common in Buddhist countries like Thailand. This is often the image that most people think of when they think "Buddhist Monks."
These sand stone statues make great garden statues, as they can be used both indoors and outdoors, and will look great either way. We think the warm, clay-colored material would look especially nice against the green colors of a lush garden.
