also known as Maha Devi or Uma Devi, is the Divine Mother of the Hindu
world. Devi is the "Mother Goddess," meaning she is the mother of all.
Her name means goddess, and she has many forms or incarnations. Her
most familiar forms are ferocious, such as Durga and Kali, or benevolent,
such as Parvati. In the form of Parvati, she is the consort (wife)
of Shiva, the god of destruction and regeneration.
As
the mother of all life, Devi is gentle, and is the god of nature and
life because she brings rain and protects against disease. As mother
of death, she is terrible. Lakshmi, wife of Vishnu is an incarnation
of Devi. She is the goddess of creative power and represents all women
