The Bangkok Post www.bangkokpost.com is presenting a forum in Thailand on how to rebuild and recuperate in Thailand after the Tsunami of December 26th, and one of the big messages they are sending is, "Please Visit."
"The easiest and best way for people to help the tsunami victims is to not cancel their trips," Ms. Lee Sutton, Marketing Driector of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort is quoted as saying. Ms. Sutton went on to note that 20,000 local Thai workers in Khao Lak's travel industry had already been thrown out of work.
James Batt of Laguna Resorts and Hotels agrees. "Coming to Phuket right now is the biggest humanitarian aid they [tourists] can do. To come is to help, and to have fun at the same time."
Many of the different hotels were working together with travel agencies and other tourism related industries to put together highly discounted tourism packages to help jump start the travel industry. Now might be an excellent opportunity for those wanting to visit the region to take advantage of great prices on accommodations.
Pridi Boonsue, vice president of marketing development and support at Thai Airways International, said the national carrier would help support a volunteer tourism concept proposed by the tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). He stated that Thai Airways would offer discounted fares for visitors participating in the program. The airline is also looking into other promotions to help entice visitors.
