Celebrated in Thailand from February 9th to 10th, It is almost time for Chinese New Year, one of the most colorful festivals celebrated in parts of Thailand - as well as in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinatowns across the world, of course! (By the way, the picture on the left is from the Tourism Authority of Thailand Web Page - please be sure to visit them by clicking the photo).
If you haven't ever been to a Chinese New Year festival in a major city in the USA, then you have to go. San Francisco has the best, in my opinion, but I know that the people in New York and elsewhere might disagree. You will see parades of Lion Dancers, acrobats, martial artists, beautiful women, firecrackers, city officials, more firecrackers, wonderful costumes, and more beautiful women!
In Thialand this Chinese New Year happens to coincide with the 50th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirinthon, who is adored by the people of Thailand. It also marks the 30th anniversary of Thia-China friendship. There will be more than 30 shows from China are included in the 2 day event such as the puppet shows, Chinese opera, martial arts and Thai-Chinese Fashion Shows.
One of the items that you will see around Chinese New Year are beautiful Chinese Lanterns, but there are all kinds of other decorations as well. Chinese New Year is a time for family, and a time for cleaning out the old and welcoming the new year. We hope that you will have a wonderful Chinese New Year wherever you celebrate it.
