According to reports from the www.kathmandupost.com Web site,
police arrested 17 members of the Nepali Congress (NC)on February 27th. The arrests were carried out across the Kindgom, as the NC staged
demonstrations demanding the restoration of civil rights and implementation of democracratic reforms.
In other reports,
the Nepal Students’ Union
(NSU) which is affiliated with the Nepali Congress, also carried out a protest rally in the capital city of Kathmandu against the King's declaration of state of emergency, which the monarch implemented back on February 1st.
A few members of the Nepal Students’ Union were detained and charged with inciting protests, an action that is illegal under the current state of emergency. According to reports from the areas, police in the district of Parsa detained eight NC members while five more were arrested in Dhangadi district.
One of those detained in sunday's raids was Nepali Congress President Raghu Paudel, who was captured in Tanahun along with an associate, Purushutam Kafle.
