I know I mostly talk about traditional Asian music on these pages, but eX-Girl is an Asian band that is so different I thought you might want to know about them. eX-Girl is three(or maybe four) Japanese girls who have been playing together since 1997 and claim to be from the Planet Kero, which in English means the Planet Ribbit (you know, the sound a frog makes). If you go to the eX-Girl web site (or see an eX-Girl video) you will realize that their whole concept is based on frogs.
It is hard to desribe the music of eX-Girl to you. It is kind of like pop music but then there is some punk music and also kind of like new wave music. But since the members of eX-Girl are from Japan, some of their songs are in English, some are in Japanese, and some are in both english and Japanese. Also, they tend to scream a lot when they sing too, but I don't know if eX-Girl scream in English or Japanese. It just sounds like a scream to me!
If you want to hear eX-Girl describe themselves in their own words, then you should listen to the eX-girl interview on the BBC Web site. You can also listen to one of the eX-Girl songs on that web site too, but if you go to the eX-Girl Web Page and click on an Music, then you can hear samples of some fo the songs.
According to the eX-Girl web site, they started performing in 1997 even though they could not play their instruments. I guess that was not important because now they have five albums released and have gone on tour throughout the world. I saw a video by eX-Girl called "Pretty You Ugly" and although I am not sure what it means, I thought it was pretty interesting (a lot of frogs). I think they use a lot of costumes when they play on stage. If you have seen them play before or own one of their albums let me know what you think.
