 Being a woman from Thailand, a lot of my male American frineds always ask me about the right way to go about dating a woman in Thailnd, and I usually end up telling them to just "be themselves." Unfortunately, it looks like the success rate for the friends I give this advice too is not so good.
I really would like to give more help to those men who are living in Thailand and who are interested in dating Thai women. Fortunately, I came a cross a blog by an English teacher named Steve in Thailand, and he has already compiled a small list of Do's and Don't for dating Thail women. Here are just a few of them:
> Don't sweet-talk too much with "Oooh, I love your.." etc, or she'll think you're a playboy.
> Do invite her for lunch and a movie on your first date.
> Don't go complaing about all things Thai, or she won't understand why you chose to live here.
> Do be clean and dress neatly, she wants you to smell and look nice.
> Don't visit her parents' home if you dont want to take the relationship too seriously, she doesn't want to lose face if you leave her.
> Do realise when you become her boyfriend she will be thinking about getting married one day
He has a lot more good tips and I encourage anyone who is going to my home country of Thailand to read his article, even if you are not thinking of dating Thai women, because it will at least help you understand the culture a bit better.
