These earrings depict the traditional Tibetan Prayer wheel, a religious instrument used by Buddhist in Nepal and Tibet to help in their Buddhist prayers. These earrings measure .75 Inches Tall by .5 Inhces across, and are made from Nepali silver.
The handheld prayer wheel is filled with small pieces of paper, each with a prayer written on it. Since Buddhist prayers often require thousands of recitations of a single prayer, believers spoin their prayer wheels and multipy the number of rotations by the number of written prayers inside the wheel.
One can also find many larger prayer wheels that are hung along a path inside of Buddhist temples. Believers follow along the path and spin the hanging prayer wheels, whih are again filled with numerous pieces of paper with prayers written on them. The concept that the sponner gains the same amount of merit for spinning the numerous prayers as if he or she recited them orally.
